Asphyxiate
Breathless, though the earth is full of sky
airless, arid steps
falter, as the wind shapes
sand beneath burning feet
And the Sphinx sits
regal with its broken
nose and sightless eyes
There's a school of thought
That says it's not a lion
at all
Discarded in the sand there
may lie, Anubis
once fifty feet high
now a sand-scraped relic
I always knew there was
a reason why
dogs and cats fought
tooth and claw
